Mayor Yap congratulates Manga National High School students
Young and enterprising, the 4H club of the Manga National High School (MNHS) bagged this year Outstanding Farmers Organization award conferred by the Department of Agriculture, Region 7. The award automatically qualifies the group to compete in the national level. The group coordinator Pablita Cabarles was also awarded for her technical expertise. MNHS School Principal Grace Marie Campos said the priority given by the school to aquaculture, agriculture, and animal husbandry has its rewards, “We have received a lot of awards from local, regional, and national organizations. The training received by the students from the City Agriculture Office, ATI, BFAR, and other agencies have definitely empowered them to carry the day-to-day requirements of project”, said Campos. To date, the MNHS garden carries a small farm using containers. The mini-farm also has hogs, chicken, and goats. The students also tried Mushroom Production. Mark Vincent Arabejo, Kyle Ambid, and Ruth Bendanillo, the students behind the 4H club manages the mini-farm from day-to-day.
The Gawad Saka is the most prestigious award given by the Department of Agriculture for outstanding individuals, farmers and fisher folks, as well as rural-based organizations, for their exemplary contributions to the advancement of the agriculture and fishery sectors. The DA emphasized the vital role of agricultural production to sustain food supply for Filipinos. The DA also thanked the farmers in Central Visayas for the contribution to the national gross agricultural production particularly Bohol. The Gawad Saka Award is an incentive program of the Department of Agriculture (DA) to encourage the present and future generations to always find ways to expand their capabilities, innovate and make mark in agriculture and continue serving as contributors to food security.
