Php49.8 million supplemental budget approved to combat COVID-19

          City Mayor John Geesnell “BABA” Yap got the full support of the 14th Sangguniang Panlungsod under City Vice-Mayor Jose Antonio Veloso to spur the initiatives of the City Government against COVID-19 when the august body approved the Php49.8 million supplemental budget last week. The ordinance, which is sponsored by Appropriations Committee Chair Jose Esteban Timoteo  Butalid, will source out funds from the Discontinued Projects, Savings from both Continuing and Current Appropriations, and other unappropriated surplus. City Budget Officer Marysol Perocho explained the funds during the session. Perocho said that the Php15.8 million will be spent for purchase of medicines, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the temporary hospital, medical supplies, disinfectants, food for patients, and furniture for the temporary hospital. The remaining Php34 million will be spent for cash assistance and purchase of food packs. The City Government also plans to provide additional relief packs and assistance to the Tagbilaranons, specifically those people whose livelihood were greatly affected by the pandemic.

           Further, the councilors also agreed with the statement of City Councilor Adam Relson Jala, that should the city need more funds, the council is willing to give up their travelling allowance. And Vice-Mayor Veloso also proposed to use the budget for the Legislative Building to augment the city’s measures against COVID-19.
