City Mayor Jane Yap proudly announced in one of the local chief executive’s posts that Tagbilaran City was chosen by SPARK Philippines to be one of its partners. Three cities were chosen for the project, Quezon City, Taguig City, and Tagbilaran City. Tagbilaran is the only city outside Metro Manila and the only one in the entire Central Visayas.

In an effort to upcycle tarpaulins, renowned designer Zarah Juan, together with women’s empowerment NGO SPARK Philippines Maica Teves, partnered with the Tagbilaran City Women’s Association Garments Manufacturing Center to cut and sew these innovative eco-bags bags. The target is to produce about 20,000 pieces. The designer bags were sold in SM Department Stores.
