Access to healthcare levels up as BUCAS center opens in Tagbilaran

Tagbilaran City marked a historic milestone in healthcare accessibility with the inauguration of the first Bagong Urgent Care and Ambulatory Services (BUCAS) Center in Central Visayas which would be lodged in the Tagbilaran City Primary Care Facility.

Mayor Jane Yap, alongside Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Dr. Teodoro Herbosa and Medical Center Chief Dr. Mutya Kismet Macuno of the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center (GCGMMC), led the momentous occasion by signing the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).

A BUCAS Center is an intermediate health facility that aims to bridge the gap between primary care facilities (rural health units or city health centers) and higher level health institutions (hospitals) by providing urgent health care services (minor surgeries and other ancillary services) all throughout the week including weekends.

The BUCAS Center is part of DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa’s “28 for 28 by 28” initiative to help fulfill his 8-Point Action Agenda for Health; targeting the establishment of at least 28 BUCAS Centers to serve the 28 million Filipinos most in need of accessible and quality healthcare services by 2028.

The signing ceremony, was also graced by DOH Regional Director Jaime Bernadas, OIC DOH Undersecretary for Health Service Cluster Area III Visayas Dr. Gloria Balboa, City Health Officer Dr. Jeia Pondoc, Atty. Abeleon Damalerio, and Vice-Mayor Atty. Adam Relson Jala.
